American blogger Laura Loomer has responded to Marco Rubio's remarks on the release of Robert Gilman, urging people not to thank Russia for his return.

She wrote about it on the social network X.

Loomer reacted to a photograph of Gilman taken after his release, saying that he looks utterly emaciated.

“He is emaciated and he was tortured. Why should we be ‘thanking Russia’?” the blogger wrote.

Marco Rubio had earlier announced that, after more than four years of imprisonment in Russia, Robert Gilman was returning to the United States. According to the Secretary of State, his release was the result of the Trump administration’s efforts to bring American citizens home.

Robert Gilman is a former US Marine who was detained and convicted in Russia. He spent that entire period in the Russian prison system.
