The United Kingdom may also contribute to anti-ballistic projects.

Ukraine’s Ministry of Defence reported this on 1 August following a meeting between Acting Minister of Defence of Ukraine Yevhenii Khmara, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Major General Mykhailo Drapatyi, and the Chief of the Defence Staff of the UK Armed Forces, Air Chief Marshal Sir Richard Knighton.

“Together with the United Kingdom, we are working on solutions that should strengthen Ukraine and the defence of our skies. I am grateful to the United Kingdom for its leadership and consistent support for Ukraine,” Yevhenii Khmara said.

The two sides discussed Ukraine’s efforts to seize the initiative on the battlefield.

“In close coordination with the Commander-in-Chief, we are preparing further steps that should increase pressure on Russia, raise enemy losses and take the use of unmanned systems to a new level,” Yevhenii Khmara said.

They also discussed joint action, including the United Kingdom’s possible contribution to Ukrainian anti-ballistic projects.

Ukraine is counting on assistance with the supply of missiles for air defence systems, as well as Meteor missiles for its Gripen jets to counter Russian aircraft carrying glide bombs.

The talks also covered the supply of counter-Shahed systems, which could be financed from the proceeds of frozen Russian assets.

“Ukraine has unique experience of modern warfare that can also strengthen our partners. We are working to ensure that Ukraine, the United Kingdom and all of Europe are ready to counter modern threats and the challenges of the future,” Yevhenii Khmara noted.
