On the Pokrovsk axis, Russian occupiers do not reduce pressure on Defense Forces positions and attempt to attack as soon as the fog sets in.
Whether dense fog helps the enemy, was explained in an exclusive comment to ArmyInform by the commander of an operational battalion of the 3rd Operational Brigade named after Colonel Petro Bolbochan “Spartan” of the National Guard of Ukraine, Major Ihor Shafiihulin.
“The enemy has ‘burning deadlines’ in its plans, so they try to conduct assault operations at any cost. Naturally, they try to use changes in weather conditions for this.
Right now is the time when dense fog often covers our axis. So the Russians first try to accumulate manpower and then conduct assaults precisely when the fog settles.
Usually, in fog they try to rush as close as possible to our positions in cars and quad bikes, and then carry out assault actions”, — he said.
However, even the thickest fog cannot prevent Ukrainian defenders from detecting and destroying the occupiers.
“I wouldn’t say that fog critically affects reconnaissance assets or the use of UAVs. As can be seen in videos posted on the brigade’s website and pages, our reconnaissance units and FPV-drone teams work both day and night, both in fog and in rain.
Fog, of course, complicates the process of detecting enemy servicemen somewhat. Overall, when there is fog or precipitation, our reconnaissance tools have a harder job.
However, we can detect and destroy the enemy even in fog.
We strike the enemy both with heavy bombers and various FPV drones. Therefore, we successfully stop and eliminate the enemy. This is one of the indicators of our slogan: ‘The enemy breaks against us!’” — the officer assured.
Currently, enemy activity on the Pokrovsk axis in the area of responsibility of the Spartan Brigade remains consistently high — the enemy tries to assault continuously.
“In general, the number of assault actions and attempts to advance toward our forward edge has not decreased. The enemy continuously conducts offensive and assault operations, trying to infiltrate our combat formations.
Therefore, our brigade constantly inflicts losses on enemy manpower. We also do not forget about their rear — we destroy their tanks and self-propelled artillery systems”, — the officer emphasized.
He reported that only in February, together with neighboring units, the Spartan Brigade eliminated 657 enemy servicemen.
Major Ihor Shafiihulin also provided statistics of enemy losses during the winter months of 2025–2026:
“During the winter period (December, January, February) the Spartan Brigade, together with adjacent units, has the following results:
- 3,553 enemies destroyed;
- 170 Russian servicemen wounded;
- 51 occupiers captured.
Also, 33 quad bikes destroyed and 6 more damaged.
They used motorcycles very little during the winter, so we destroyed only 8 of them.
Ten units of light automotive equipment were destroyed”, — he reported.
