The government has strengthened the capabilities of private air-defense groups to protect critical infrastructure
The Government has adopted a decision that strengthens the capabilities of air-defense groups established at enterprises.
This was announced by the Minister of Defense of Ukraine Mykhailo Fedorov on March 2.
He recalled that in November last year the Government allowed the launch of an experimental project involving enterprises in the state air-defense system. At that time, enterprises were given the opportunity to create their own air-defense groups integrated into the unified command system of the Air Force.
“Now we are taking the next step — expanding their capabilities. The Government has adopted a decision that strengthens the capabilities of air-defense groups created at enterprises,” the statement reads.
Key changes:
- Enterprises will be able to temporarily receive weapons and means of destruction from the warehouses of military units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, provided these assets are not used in combat units.
- The list of means and the amount of ammunition will be determined by the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine within an individual decision for each enterprise.
- In case they are used while repelling attacks, resupply will be carried out under a simplified procedure based on an act of actual expenditure.
According to the minister, the transfer of weapons will take place exclusively for the duration of the experimental project and only with the approval of the Air Force Command.
This mechanism makes it possible to promptly strengthen the protection of critical infrastructure facilities and integrate private capabilities into the state’s unified air-defense system.
“Protecting the sky is a top priority defined by the President of Ukraine. Our goal is to identify 100% of air threats in real time and intercept at least 95% of missiles and drones.
We have already implemented the After Action Review system to analyze attacks, established the command of the ‘small’ air-defense system, and developed a concept for systematic protection from Shaheds, which we are gradually implementing”, — Mykhailo Fedorov emphasized.
Coordination between the Air Force, military administrations, and the new command has also been established. Regional leaders are now able to analyze the effectiveness of air defense in real time.
“We are uniting all levels of command to strengthen the protection of our sky”, — the minister summarized.
