In Kupiansk, Defense Forces units are actively clearing multi-story residential areas, attempting to completely destroy the enemy who continues to hide in basements and cellars.
This was stated on the air of the national telethon United News by the deputy commander of the search-and-strike group of the 2nd Corps of the National Guard of Ukraine “Khartiia”, call sign “Vovk”.
According to him, the central part of the city was recently cleared of the enemy. In particular, Ukrainian forces recaptured the city council building. First, the enemy was struck with drones that flew directly inside the building and eliminated enemy personnel there. By the time Ukrainian infantry entered, most of the enemy soldiers were already wounded or concussed.
“It should be understood that the city council is primarily a symbol. Traditionally, whoever controls the city council controls the city. Therefore, the enemy defended it desperately, sending servicemen from neighboring apartment buildings to hold the city council building as long as possible. So it would be wrong to say it was easy”, — the deputy commander said.
Currently, fewer than one hundred enemy soldiers remain within the city — about seventy, Vovk noted. The enemy is present only in the central part. The Defense Forces know about every Russian hideout. Search-and-strike units are gradually forcing them out of shelters. Fighting outside the city is ongoing simultaneously.
“The enemy’s attempts to break into the city do not stop, despite the fact that all approaches are now reliably blocked. Ninety-nine percent of the enemy forces moving toward the city are destroyed by our drones, artillery, and infantry. Every day, on average, about ten enemy servicemen are killed — sometimes five, sometimes thirty per day. The fields are literally strewn with their corpses”, — Vovk noted.
