The international delegation, headed by Ana Lucía Bueno, ICRC Public Health Coordinator, and Sujit Panda, Head of the Physical Rehabilitation and Inclusion Project, was welcomed by Lieutenant General Anatolii Kazmirchuk, Commander of the Medical Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, representatives of the Medical Forces Command, the Social Support Department of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, and the hospital leadership.
Together they inspected the hospital’s infrastructure — both the renovated areas and those still requiring repair.
The guests were satisfied with what they saw. The head of the ICRC delegation noted that substantial and good work had already been carried out. And although part of the path has been completed, much still lies ahead.
ICRC experts provided professional consultations on compliance of the premises with international accessibility and inclusivity standards, and exchanged experience with Ukrainian military doctors regarding best practices for equipping rehabilitation facilities.
— We hope that with the help of the International Committee of the Red Cross we will be able to establish a rehabilitation treatment system and create the necessary inclusive conditions for restorative care, — emphasized Lieutenant General Anatolii Kazmirchuk.
Following the visit, the parties will coordinate a list of the hospital’s priority needs (within the humanitarian mandate of the ICRC) and develop a plan for further cooperation regarding material and technical support to establish a barrier-free environment, as well as define specific areas and timelines for ICRC support.
The military doctors working at the hospital also hope that the ICRC delegation’s visit will contribute to the institution’s further development and help create proper conditions for patient care in the near future.
