Ukraine is expecting additional deliveries of Mirage 2000-5 aircraft from France.
The Ukrainian Ministry of Defense provided details about them.
“This will significantly strengthen our state’s air capabilities, as they effectively destroy cruise missiles and attack drones, including Shaheds”, — the statement reads.
The Mirage 2000 are multirole fighters equipped with digital avionics. They have modern radar systems and electronic warfare suites, which significantly enhance their combat capabilities.
It is noted that the Dassault Mirage aircraft Ukraine will receive belong to a class close to 4++, which is higher than the MiG-29 jets currently in service with the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
“These are deeply modernized fourth-generation fighters, whose combat capabilities, radar equipment, and maneuverability approach those of fifth-generation fighters. They have improved avionics, and are lighter and more maneuverable than most counterparts. They can perform combat missions at altitudes of up to 18 km”, — the MoD stated.
Mirage 2000 aircraft have powerful radars and weapons, including high-precision Magic-2 missiles. This allows them to effectively detect and neutralize low-visibility cruise missiles and attack drones such as Shahed, Geran, and Gerbera. They can also neutralize enemy operational-tactical reconnaissance assets.
The MoD stressed that Mirage 2000 jets are important for countering Russian aerial terror, protection from which is a priority of Ukraine’s War Plan.
In addition, the Mirage 2000’s hardpoints are compatible with all types of NATO-standard aerial weapons, allowing the use of Storm Shadow/SCALP missiles, AASM Hammer bombs, and other types of armaments.
“The presence of such aircraft significantly strengthens Ukraine’s air defense, which is extremely important during the aggressor’s mass missile-and-drone attacks”, — the MoD added.
