During attempted assault actions in the Lyman direction, Russian infantrymen, due to negligence or shortsightedness, neglected winter camouflage. This made it easy to detect their silhouettes, which stood out starkly black against white snow, during aerial reconnaissance.
Details of the combat episode were provided to ArmyInform in an exclusive comment by Oleksandr, callsign “Bacon”, commander of the 1st Mechanized Battalion “Kassta” of the 66th Separate Mechanized Brigade named after Prince Mstyslav the Brave.
As a result, the group of Russian invaders that fell into a snow trap was destroyed.
“At present, the enemy has a sufficient number of personnel to attempt to break through our defenses, to try to advance in various sectors of the front. They strongly hope that we will lack forces and means and also use weather conditions for breakthroughs”, — he said.
Commenting on the video released by the brigade, the servicemember noted that the enemy attempts to exploit weather conditions for breakthrough attempts.
“The video captures one of the cases when, during worsening weather conditions, there was an attempted breakthrough. First, the assault group accumulated, after which it was supposed to transition into our battle formations”, — the officer explained.
However, the enemy’s attempts were unsuccessful.
“The ‘Kassta’ Battalion controls its sector quite tightly, and there was no breakthrough. The enemy was detected in advance, and this video fragment is only a separate part of the area”.
At the same time, assault attempts were also recorded in another part of the battalion’s defensive area, which were likewise futile for the enemy.
Even deteriorated weather conditions — wind and frost — did not help the enemy achieve its intentions.
The battalion commander emphasized that the unit controls not only the forward edge but also strikes deep into enemy rear areas. This has forced the enemy to almost abandon the use of equipment.
“We try to control not only our forward line but also logistics and approaches to our battalion defensive area. They almost do not use equipment, or only do so in very poor weather conditions, when it’s impossible to even launch a drone”, — Oleksandr said.
All of this forces enemy infantry to cover long distances on foot just to approach the line of contact.
This time, the Russians likely moved out before the snowfall and did not prepare for the change in weather, or neglected camouflage altogether — and paid the price.
“Apparently, when they moved out, there wasn’t such dense snow yet, and they miscalculated. That’s why they had no camouflage means and we detected them fairly quickly. But that’s not always the case — sometimes there’s a human factor, when they simply didn’t expect it and didn’t prepare, didn’t dress appropriately, thinking they were moving through a relatively safe area, but it turned out not to be so”, — explained the commander of the ‘Kassta’ Battalion.
