“Even if you’re a Yakut, infiltrating is uncomfortable”: fighting continues in eastern Sumy region around the “toothache”

In the Sumy region, within the area of responsibility of the Joint Forces Grouping, border fighting continues. The enemy is “trying to palpate” Ukrainian defenses along the entire line.

This was reported on air by Viktor Trehubov, spokesperson for the Joint Forces Grouping, during a broadcast on Suspilne Novyny.

According to him, the main problem in eastern Sumy region is the village of Hrabovske, which Russian forces have entered. As Trehubov noted, this is the “main toothache”. The settlement lies directly on the border and is very convenient for the occupiers — their supply shoulder is virtually zero.

“They can sit there as long as they want until we knock them out. Logistics pose no problem for them. It’s a small patch that Russia managed to crawl into. They are actively trying to probe the defenses, essentially along the entire line. They’re trying to creep in little by little”, — the spokesperson noted.

Weather conditions complicate the situation — though they affect both sides. It is easier for Russians to infiltrate because Ukrainian UAV activity is reduced, but the number of such attempts is still lower.

“First of all, fiber optics freeze. When there’s wind or snowfall, UAVs lose both optical target-fixation capabilities and overall flight performance. That’s a minus. The plus is that even if you’re some kind of Yakut, at minus 20 degrees and in a blizzard, infiltrating across white snow is not very comfortable. First, you freeze. Second, you’re visible even visually”, — Viktor Trehubov stated.
