Since 2014, when the war began, there have been many training grounds and combat deployments of the brigade, and throughout all this time Serhii has continued to perform his duties as a cook despite everything.

His story was shared on the page of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

This is the story of a serviceman whose work may not seem heroic — he does not destroy tanks or enemy personnel — but despite any conditions and difficulties, he fulfills his duties. The military know how important his work is.

“The day after graduating from college, I received a call from a military unit and was offered a job in the kitchen. I decided to go and try it, and I realized that this was my calling! I fell in love with the atmosphere! And for 15 years now I have been with the brigade!” — recalls Serhii, head of the logistics group.

Until 2023, he was a cook; later he received an officer rank, and along with it, expanded responsibilities.

“Times passed, commanders changed, but I stayed in my place, cooking lunches, breakfasts, and dinners for the soldiers. Now I am responsible for supervising the kitchen’s work, receiving food supplies, fuel and lubricants, clothing, and everything related to logistics in the battalion”, — Serhii says.

He believes that as a leader, one must be able to communicate with people. Every working day begins with conversations with the cooks about how they are doing, what they need, and what is lacking. His entire day is spent on administrative issues.

“The menu is discussed and planned with leadership. But cooks can make changes and suggest what would be better to do, because they know exactly how many portions can be prepared from the available products”, — he explains.

According to him, military cooks do not always cook according to schedule.

“We even baked pizza for paratroopers in the forest! I love my job. I respect my brothers-in-arms, and they respect me. Do not be afraid to join the military! If you do not come here today, the enemy may come to you tomorrow!” — the officer added.
