Volodymyr Zelenskyy after a conversation with the Ecumenical Patriarch: Even on Christmas, Russia strikes cities and people
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a conversation with His All-Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew, thanking him for Christmas greetings to Ukrainians and consistent support for Ukraine.
This was reported in a post on the President’s official page.
According to the Head of State, during the conversation they separately discussed Russian strikes that did not stop either on Christmas Eve or Christmas night. The Russian army continued attacking energy infrastructure and peaceful cities, resulting in power outage schedules in many regions.
The President reported that during the day Russian forces again struck cities in eastern Ukraine. In particular, in Chernihiv, while he was speaking with the Patriarch, assistance was being provided to the wounded after a Russian drone hit a residential building.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy emphasized that the conversation included a principled assessment of Russia’s actions as a state that has lost any moral and spiritual reference points.
“Unfortunately, we are dealing with barbarians who, in the end, do not even believe in God. This is what Russia has become — and it is not ashamed of it at all”, — the President stated.
The Head of State stressed that Ukraine will continue to resist Russian aggression by all possible means, protecting the lives of Ukrainians and all people suffering because of the continuation of the war.
