From a soldier to deputy commander of a mechanized battalion of the 41st Separate Mechanized Brigade — this is the combat path taken by serviceman Roman Savytskyi, call sign “Major”.
A video of the conversation with him was published by the 41st Separate Mechanized Brigade.
Roman knows firsthand the cost of trench warfare, assaults, and wounds, as well as the responsibility for the lives of his brothers-in-arms. All the knowledge gained through sweat and blood, “Major” passes on every day to young fighters.
Back in 2015, he was a participant in combat operations and took part in the ATO and JFO.
“I worked for 19 years in the Ministry of Internal Affairs system, worked for one year as deputy head of the Novomyrhorod District Administration of Kirovohrad Oblast. And on the 25th, I gathered some of my things there and went to the military enlistment office to undergo the medical commission as a volunteer. I was in positions near Donetsk, near Pisky. I spent approximately up to six months in positions as part of the 56th Brigade”, — said “Major.”
There he sustained his first wound. After rehabilitation, he returned to the unit.
“Since the platoon commander there was wounded, by decision of the leadership I was assigned to temporarily lead the platoon, which I had to take into battle. During fighting in a settlement, I received a second gunshot wound. After rehabilitation, I returned to service. Then there were battles in the Huliaipole direction of Zaporizhzhia Oblast and a return to Donetsk Oblast to the Bakhmut direction with the same 56th Brigade”, — Roman recalled.
In 2023, he was offered the position of deputy company commander. He agreed and signed a five-year contract. He was awarded the initial rank of junior lieutenant.
“In 2025, I was offered the position of deputy battalion commander of the 41st Separate Mechanized Brigade, where I continue my service to this day.
The personal experience I gained as a soldier in trench battles I can now pass on to newly arrived fighters of my unit and properly prepare them to carry out combat missions. Currently, family support is the greatest motivation to continue performing tasks to defend the Motherland”, — noted “Major”.
