In 2026, the Armed Forces of Ukraine will receive 200 Bohdana self-propelled artillery systems on the new Zetros chassis. The Ministry of Defense of Ukraine explained what makes these chassis special.

This was stated in the ministry’s message.

“€750 million will be allocated for this largest artillery project from Germany’s total assistance package of €1.2 billion”, — the Ministry of Defense noted.

It is specified that Zetros is a versatile chassis produced by the German company Mercedes-Benz. It is designed for operation in difficult conditions, including off-road terrain. It is used as a chassis for military trucks, transporters, fuel tankers, tractors, and platforms for special equipment or weapons.

“The Zetros chassis is distinguished by high maintainability. Axle configurations include 4×2, 4×4, 6×4, 6×6, as well as the new 8×8. The transmission is a 16-speed manual or an Allison automatic. Mercedes-Benz Zetros trucks provided by Germany are already being actively used by the Armed Forces of Ukraine”, — the Ministry of Defense reported.

The defense ministry emphasized that the Bohdana is the first Ukrainian self-propelled artillery system of 155 mm caliber (NATO standard). As of the end of 2025, it had become one of the most widely used artillery systems in the Armed Forces of Ukraine. At various times, the Bohdana has been mounted on KrAZ, MAZ, and Tatra chassis.

“It is also produced under the ‘Danish model,’ which предусматриває foreign financing of Ukraine’s defense-industrial capacities. The Bohdana has proven itself to be reliable, accurate, adaptive, and the most maintainable system at the disposal of the Armed Forces of Ukraine”, — the Ministry of Defense added.

Its record includes the successful execution of operational tasks, such as the destruction of ammunition depots and headquarters at depths of up to 40 km, as well as participation in historically significant operations, for example, the liberation of Zmiinyi (Snake) Island.
