Completed more than 200 combat sorties — the story of Hero of Ukraine Oleksandr Borovyk
Second-class pilot, Lieutenant Colonel Oleksandr Borovyk of the 39th Tactical Aviation Brigade, was awarded the highest title of Hero of Ukraine with the Order of the Gold Star (posthumously), in accordance with the Presidential Decree of Ukraine №896/2025 dated 05 December 2025.

Oleksandr, who served as a navigator, was killed while performing a combat mission in the Zaporizhzhia sector. He was only 30 years old.
During his years of service, he completed more than 200 combat sorties. In the sky, he proved himself to be a highly professional pilot who effectively destroyed aerial targets and covered the actions of his comrades.
Oleksandr was awarded the Order of Bohdan Khmelnytskyi, the Presidential award “For the Defense of Ukraine”, as well as the badges “For Destroying Enemy Armored Vehicles” and “For Destroying Enemy Aircraft Equipment”.
In the 39th Brigade, the serviceman is described as a responsible, dedicated soldier who always carried out assigned tasks with maximum precision and selflessness.
He is survived by his wife. He was his parents’ only son.
“Bestowing the highest state award on Oleksandr Borovyk is a recognition of his courage, professionalism, and contribution to the defense of Ukraine. Eternal memory to the Hero of Ukraine…”, — the Ukrainian Air Force said in its statement.
