Minister of Defence of Ukraine Evgeniy Khmara held a phone conversation with German Defence Minister Boris Pistorius.

Evgeniy Khmara thanked Germany for its critically important support. Timely deliveries of ammunition for F-16 fighter jets are particularly important, as the aircraft are already proving highly effective against Russian drones.

“With our partners’ support, we are also developing solutions to protect our cities, including electronic warfare systems. We are analysing their effectiveness against jet-powered Shahed drones and scaling up what works,” Evgeniy Khmara stressed.

The ministers also discussed the threat posed by Russian ballistic missile strikes. Ukraine is developing asymmetric responses and striking Russian launchers, with results already achieved against such targets, Khmara noted.

The talks also covered key needs for protecting critical infrastructure, particularly in Kyiv. Increasing supplies of air defence systems remains essential, including interceptors for IRIS-T systems.

Another key focus was sharing Ukraine’s combat experience to strengthen Germany’s security, expanding industrial cooperation and jointly producing UAVs.

Yevhenii Khmara thanked Germany for its timely and consistent support, as well as its flexibility in finding solutions to strengthen Ukraine’s defence capabilities.

On October 4, Ukrainian Defence Minister Evgeniy Khmara met in Kyiv with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz.

The Ukrainian Defence Minister handed the German chancellor a list of weapons needed by the Defence Forces, including ammunition for F-16 fighter jets and missiles for IRIS-T and Patriot air defence systems.
