Ukraine is counting on Norway’s support in strengthening air defence to counter russian jet-powered Shahed drones and ballistic missiles.

The issue was discussed during a phone call between the Minister of Defence of Ukraine, Evgeniy Khmara, and his Norwegian counterpart, Tore O. Sandvik.

Evgeniy Khmara briefed Tore O. Sandvik on the consequences of russian strikes on civilian sites in Ukrainian cities, including Kyiv, over recent weeks.

«Ballistic missiles and jet-powered drones are the main challenges to protecting our skies. Ukraine is developing its own capabilities to counter these threats. Results are already being achieved in shooting down jet-powered UAVs. At the same time, Ukraine is counting on continued support from its partners», Evgeniy Khmara said.

The Minister of Defence of Ukraine briefed his Norwegian counterpart on a specific list of urgent needs that would help strengthen air defence immediately. These include munitions for F-16s and man-portable air-defence systems (MANPADS).

Evgeniy Khmara thanked Norway for its sustained, consistent and substantial support for Ukraine. Norway allocates around 1.3% of its GDP annually to support Ukraine, equivalent to approximately $7 billion.
