“Oreshnik” Is Already in Belarus: GUR Chief Says russia Has Deployed the Missile System Near Ukraine’s Borders
Ukraine’s military intelligence has confirmed that russia has deployed units equipped with its new intermediate-range “Oreshnik” missile system in Belarus.
This was reported by Oleh Ivashchenko, Chief of the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine, in an interview with Ukrinform.
According to him, there are currently no signs that Belarus is preparing to directly enter the war against Ukraine, and the level of threat from the Belarusian direction remains low. At the same time, russia continues to strengthen its military presence on the territory of the Union State.
“We have observed the deployment in Belarus of units of the 101st Missile Brigade of the armed forces of the russian federation, which is equipped with the Oreshnik intermediate-range missile system,” Oleh Ivashchenko said.
“Oreshnik” is a russian intermediate-range ballistic missile system. According to assessments by Western experts, the system is linked to the RS-26 Rubezh project and uses technologies from russian solid-fuel ballistic missiles. Its estimated range is between 3,000 and 5,500 km. According to the GUR, during the terminal phase of flight, the missile can reach speeds of more than Mach 11 — around 13,500 km/h.
The GUR chief also said that intelligence is observing another dangerous trend — the use of Belarusian territory to launch attacks against Ukraine.
According to Ivashchenko, radio signal repeaters are operating on the territory of Belarus, helping russian Shahed-type attack drones target Ukrainian civilian facilities and critical infrastructure.
He stressed that if Minsk did not officially authorize the deployment of such systems, this means that the Belarusian authorities no longer control the activities of russian military personnel on their own territory.
At the same time, the GUR continues to monitor the Kremlin’s attempts to draw Belarus into the war, but currently sees no signs that the Belarusian army is preparing for offensive operations against Ukraine.
