As a result of the attack, Building B of the university was seriously damaged. Several buildings of the National University of Food Technologies were affected overall.
Classes were underway at the university at the time of the strike. According to President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, 160 students were inside the building, and all of them made it to the shelter in time. There were no casualties among the students or university staff.
The attack occurred virtually on the second day of the new academic year. Just the day before, the university had welcomed first-year students and opened the new academic year, while the following day one of its buildings was seriously damaged in a russian strike.
The National University of Food Technologies said that despite the destruction, the university would continue its work and educational process.
“Our shared home, our space for inspiration and creativity, has suffered destruction. But no matter how hard the enemy tries, it will not break our spirit, our will, or our love for our alma mater,” the rectorate said in a statement.
The university emphasized that people remain its greatest value, while the safety of students and staff is the priority. It also urged everyone not to neglect safety rules and to follow the established procedures during air raid alerts.
Following the attack, President Zelenskyy called on international partners to strengthen Ukraine’s air defense and increase sanctions pressure on russia.
“You cannot destroy a university,” the National University of Food Technologies said, emphasizing that the damaged buildings would definitely be restored.
