An open Prozorro tender for the purchase of 5,000 pickups has enabled the Defense Procurement Agency (DOT) to save more than UAH 2 billion.

The Ministry of Defense of Ukraine reported this on Wednesday, September 2.

According to Deputy Defense Minister Mstyslav Banik, until recently, the urgent need for pickups among the Defense Forces had to be covered through volunteer fundraising and the troops’ own resources. However, the centralized procurement process has helped change this.

“5,000 vehicles is the largest number the state has ever purchased centrally, and this is only the beginning. These are brand-new vehicles with a manufacturer’s warranty, four-wheel drive, and powerful diesel engines,” the deputy minister said.

According to the ministry, the procurement process, supported by six suppliers, began back in May, and the first batch of the 5,000 vehicles began arriving at Defense Forces units in the fall. The remainder is expected by the end of 2026.

The money saved will be allocated to other needs of the Defense Forces.
