Ukraine is counting on Germany to continue playing a leading role in supporting its defence.

Yevhenii Khmara reported this after a meeting with Germany’s Minister for Foreign Affairs Johann Wadephul.

The main topics of the talks included funding for Ukraine’s defence, strengthening air defence and new joint defence projects. Yevhenii Khmara thanked Germany for its consistent support for Ukraine and stressed that Kyiv is counting on further assistance.

“We are counting on Germany to continue playing a leading role in this area,” Ukraine’s Minister of Defence said.

According to him, German assistance has a direct bearing on Ukraine’s ability to protect troops at the front and civilians from Russian attacks. The two sides also discussed strengthening Ukrainian air defence, which remains one of the main priorities for protecting people and critical infrastructure.

They also discussed new formats of defence cooperation between Ukraine and Germany. Yevhenii Khmara stressed that Ukraine has unique combat experience that it can share with its partners.

“We will build up mutually beneficial cooperation that will strengthen both Ukraine and Germany,” the minister said.

Yevhenii Khmara separately thanked Johann Wadephul and Germany for their support for Ukraine.
