Minister of Defence of Ukraine Yevhenii Khmara held a meeting with US Senator Richard Blumenthal on Sunday.

This was reported on the Ministry of Defence’s Telegram channel.

“I thanked him for his support and his considerable personal efforts to achieve a just peace for Ukraine. We focused on how to build a long-term, mutually beneficial relationship between Ukraine and the United States,” the minister said.

Yevhenii Khmara stressed that Ukraine has unique experience in adapting to changes on the battlefield and developing solutions that move quickly into combat use. “We are ready to share these developments with our partners,” he emphasised.

Together with Brigadier General Serhii Sobko, acting Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the minister briefed the senator on the situation at the front, current threats and the changes Ukraine is introducing to fight more effectively.

Yevhenii Khmara stressed that US support is critically important for protecting Ukrainians, and that the United States can help bring this war to an end on Ukraine’s terms.

“I made a separate point of stressing that it is important to keep restricting Russia’s financial capabilities. This directly affects the aggressor’s ability to continue the war. I am grateful to Senator Blumenthal, to Congress, to the US administration and to the American people for their support for Ukraine,” Yevhenii Khmara concluded.

As ArmyInform reported earlier, on 23 August President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with US Senators Richard Blumenthal and James Lankford. The President stressed the need to pass the bill on tightening sanctions against Russia as quickly as possible — legislation on which the late Senator Lindsey Graham had worked.

According to the head of state, sanctions should become one of the instruments for compelling Russia to end the war through diplomacy.
