Ghana is demanding that Russia stop recruiting its citizens to take part in the war against Ukraine.

This was reported by Ukraine’s Center for Countering Disinformation under the National Security and Defense Council.

According to the Center, the issue was raised during a meeting between the foreign ministers of Ghana and Russia.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov also confirmed that South Africa, Kenya, and Botswana had made similar demands to Moscow.

The Center noted that Russia continues to recruit citizens of other states into the war. According to its data, by the end of 2025, around 18,000 citizens from 128 countries across Africa, Asia, and Latin America had been recruited.

At least 3,300 of them, according to the Center, have been killed in combat.

The Center also stated that by the end of 2026, Russia plans to recruit at least another 18,500 foreigners into the war.

To recruit them, Russian structures reportedly use deception and manipulation, according to the Center. Foreigners may be promised civilian jobs, including work as security guards, high pay, and expedited Russian citizenship.

The Center believes Russia is using this method to replenish its ranks with citizens of other countries.
