«We Will Get Through the Winter and Save Lives»: Volodymyr Zelenskyy Asks the US to Sell Ukraine Anti-Ballistic Missiles
Ukraine has 2.5 times fewer interceptor missiles than it did last year, while Russia has increased its stock of ballistic missiles.
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy said this in an interview with CNN.
According to Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Russia is currently launching roughly twice as many ballistic missiles per month as before, while Ukraine’s need for air defence capabilities is only growing.
The President stressed that Ukraine is not asking for these missiles free of charge and is ready to pay their full cost.
“We are paying 100% for anti-ballistic missiles. Every day I hold talks, meetings and phone calls to find a solution,” Volodymyr Zelenskyy said.
The head of state reported that he had asked the United States to sell Ukraine 5% of its stock of PAC-3 interceptor missiles.
In his view, that would be enough to get through the most difficult winter period and save a great many lives.
“If the Americans sell us 5% of their PAC-3 interceptors, we will get through the winter and save people’s lives,” the President stressed.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy added that receiving 10% of such missiles would give Ukraine the ability to shoot down virtually all Russian ballistic missiles.
According to the President, Ukraine currently has only around 1% of the required number of these interceptors.
