Volodymyr Zelenskyy explained how Russia uses Belarusian territory for strikes on Ukraine.
He stated this in an interview with the independent Belarusian media outlet Zerkalo.
“Belarus now knows exactly what is happening on its territory. One can no longer say, as Lukashenko told me earlier after the start of the full-scale invasion, that rockets flew out, and they had been there for a long time, and they do not control this.
Now the relay stations for modern Shahed drones — this is new equipment that appeared on Belarusian territory and helps strike our people and energy infrastructure. Because it is precisely thanks to these relay stations that correction is carried out.
We did everything so that three or four of them no longer existed. We had to do this because Russia used jet-powered drones not only through Belarus. They came not only through its territory, but also with technological support from Belarus”, — Zelenskyy said.
According to him, the next step is preparing a site for deploying the “Oreshnik” system on Belarusian territory.
“These are new steps, not old ones that, as Lukashenko said, did not depend on him. Now they definitely depend on him. And we are at a moment when, in my view, Belarusians must understand all the risks”, — Zelenskyy warned.
He believes NATO should regard the “Oreshnik” as a legitimate target.
“Ukraine will assess this threat. Lukashenko is making a big mistake. And it is not only about the ‘Oreshnik’. Everyone sees that they are putting on more show now.
They haven’t even brought the entire ‘Oreshnik’ yet — only the corresponding vehicles. But they are already doing everything to frighten Europe.
But he is playing in vain, because after these steps, without even asking Lukashenko, the Russians will bring the ‘Oreshnik’ onto Belarusian territory”, — the President cautioned.
He added that Russia is again preparing new military exercises in Belarus.
“We will see how large they will be. But last time, when they were massive, the offensive on Ukraine began. So all of this is certainly a major risk for Ukraine. And, I believe, a major risk for Belarusians”, — Zelenskyy noted.
