Went through Bakhmut and Soledar — sergeant “Matroskin”: the main thing in war is people
The senior sergeant of the battalion of the 77th Air Assault Naddniprianska Brigade, Eduard with the callsign “Matroskin”, understood a simple truth in the firs
The story of the fighter was published on February 10 on the brigade’s channel.
During the first battles, “Matroskin’s” attitude toward service was formed — calm, demanding, and without illusions. From a squad leader, he gradually reached the position of battalion senior sergeant.
When the 77th Brigade was being formed, Eduard was among those who built it not in words but through daily work. Order, discipline, responsibility — not for reports, but for survival.
The choice of the Air Assault Forces was conscious: there are no random people here, and someone always makes decisions on which others’ lives depend.
Behind him are the Lyman direction, Soledar, and Bakhmut — places where the war leaves no room for mistakes or “later”. He worked under constant pressure, with limited logistics, under continuous battles — organizing the unit, maintaining control, and pulling people out of the hardest situations.
Today the 77th Brigade performs combat tasks in the Kupiansk direction. As senior sergeant of the 2nd airborne battalion, Eduard works with people daily: trains them, prepares them, unites units into a single whole.
He knows the value of every soldier — because behind each one stands not only a uniform but a family and future.
He is demanding but fair. He teaches not only to follow orders but to think in battle, make decisions under pressure, and protect those nearby — that is how trust is born.
He continues developing even during war. Sports help keep in shape, and books on military history help analyze others’ mistakes to avoid his own. For him, service is constant self-improvement.
His wife and two daughters are waiting for him in the rear. It is for their peaceful mornings that he remains in his place. For the brigade, he is the backbone of the sergeants. For the battalion — the person trusted in the hardest moment.
