Servicemen with the status of combat veteran are entitled to free travel once every two years (round trip) by rail, water, air, or intercity road transport, regardless of the availability of railway connections, or to travel once a year (round trip) by the same types of transport with a 50 percent discount.
The Ministry of Defense of Ukraine reported that for this purpose it is necessary to have a corresponding voucher book, and also explained when it is issued, how to use it, and how to obtain a new one.
“The first voucher book granting the right to purchase travel tickets at a 50 percent discount should be issued simultaneously with the combat veteran certificate”, — the statement said.
At the ticket office, one must present the combat veteran certificate and the voucher book. The cashier exchanges the vouchers for tickets.
After the expiration of the voucher book’s validity period, a new one is issued. Active servicemen must submit a report to the commander of their military unit.
“A voucher book whose validity period has expired must be returned. If it is missing, the authority authorized to issue voucher books conducts a verification of the grounds for obtaining a new one”, — the Ministry of Defense explained.
The Ministry also noted that servicemen traveling on preferential tickets are subject to all transportation rules and conditions applicable to the respective type of transport.
