As a result of Russian shelling, one of Kyiv’s thermal power plants was flooded due to a damaged pipe. This significantly complicated the repair of equipment on which heat and electricity supply to thousands of homes depends.

This was reported on January 22 by Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko.

A unique underwater special operation was carried out by divers of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine in frost down to –15°C.

Without hesitation, in icy water and under extreme conditions, the divers began work to eliminate the damage.

The operation lasted six days. The water leak was stopped, allowing services to continue restoration work.

“I express my sincere gratitude to the SES divers for their professionalism!

I thank the President of Ukraine for the high state recognition of their work. According to the decree:

  • Artem Orlov, Denys Frolov, and Mykhailo Khyzhniak were awarded the Order ‘For Courage’ (3rd class);

  • Andrii Vlasenko was awarded the Order of Danylo Halytskyi;

  • Anton Haitan was awarded the Medal ‘Defender of the Fatherland’.

This is an example of responsibility and courage that holds the country in the most difficult conditions. Thank you to the SES personnel for your service and dedication to people”, —  Ihor Klymenko noted.
