Thanks to the systems protecting Ukraine, 14 out of 18 ballistic missiles were intercepted. This is an extremely high interception rate. However, during every massive strike, several missiles still break through the defenses and destroy energy infrastructure.
This was stated on air during the national telethon United News by Yurii Ihnat, Head of the Communications Department of the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
According to him, the enemy plans each massive strike differently. Something new is constantly added, and the adversary draws conclusions. Its task remains unchanged — to destroy Ukraine’s energy system.
“What distinguishes the most recent strikes during the autumn-winter period? The enemy uses a lot of ballistic missiles. Both in the south and the east, as well as against the capital. Today we saw 18 ballistic missiles. 14 out of 18 were intercepted — an extremely high rate for ballistics. But unfortunately, those four missiles hit certain facilities, causing damage”, — Ihnat said.
It was not possible to intercept the hypersonic Zircon missile, which struck a facility in Vinnytsia region. However, 315 out of 339 Shaheds were shot down or suppressed, as well as 13 out of 15 cruise missiles — there is no information yet on where the remaining two landed. The interception rate is indeed high. Nevertheless, the portion of missiles and UAVs that broke through caused very significant damage.
“We have a high air defense effectiveness rate — let it be 80%. But 20% still get through. We have a massive strike every two weeks. That 20% gradually knocks out our capacities. Therefore, Ukraine relies on its partners — not only to replenish missile stocks, but also to restore our energy sector. Because it’s impossible to shoot down everything. Even Israel, a small country with one of the world’s most powerful air defense systems, cannot intercept all ballistic missiles and also has problems with UAVs”, — Yurii Ihnat concluded.
