SSU “Alpha” unit destroyed and disabled Russian air defense systems worth $4 billion in 2025
Units of the Alpha Special Operations Center of the Security Service of Ukraine carried out systematic strikes against Russia’s layered air defense system throughout 2025. As a result of long-range special operations, the total value of destroyed and disabled enemy air defense assets is estimated at approximately $4 billion.
This was reported by the Security Service of Ukraine on January 19.
According to available information, hits on a number of key elements of Russia’s air defense system have been confirmed.
In particular, S-300, S-350, and S-400 surface-to-air missile systems; Buk-M1 and Buk-M2 SAM systems; Pantsir-S1 and Pantsir-S2 missile-gun systems; as well as Tor-M1, Tor-M2, and Tor-M3 systems were destroyed or disabled.
In addition, radar reconnaissance and targeting assets suffered significant losses, without which effective air defense operation is impossible.
Among the affected targets were 55Zh6U Nebo-U and Nebo-M radar stations, Podlyot, Niobiy, Kasta-2E2, Gamma-D, Protivnik-GE radars, radar assets within Buk, S-300, and S-400 systems, the 92N6 radar, and other elements of air target detection systems.
“This work produced a systemic effect: corridors were punched through Russia’s multi-layered air defense, ensuring safe routes for Ukrainian long-range drones deep into enemy rear areas — to military bases, depots, airfields, and other military facilities”, — the SSU noted.
