A deputy battalion commander of the Russian Armed Forces has been notified of suspicion for issuing orders to strike Ukraine’s energy and gas transportation infrastructure.

This was reported by the Office of the Prosecutor General on January 19.

Prosecutors established facts of the deputy battalion commander’s complicity in issuing orders to strike energy and gas transportation infrastructure facilities using Geran-2 UAVs.

According to the investigation, in 2023–2024, while being on the temporarily occupied territory of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, the suspect, in collusion with senior military command of the Russian Armed Forces, issued orders to employ strike UAVs of the Geran-2 type at pre-determined coordinates.

The strikes were directed at specific energy and gas transportation infrastructure facilities on the territory of Ukraine that are critically important for ensuring the livelihoods of the civilian population.

“The suspect’s actions have been classified under Part 2 of Article 28 and Part 1 of Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (commission of a war crime by a group of persons). Everyone involved in shelling civilian objects will be held accountable. Ukraine is documenting all facts of war crimes for international justice”, — the statement said.
