Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, General Oleksandr Syrskyi, summed up 2025, noting that the enemy’s plans to seize southern and eastern Ukraine were completely thwarted. Thanks to the resilience of Ukrainian warriors, the aggressor failed to accomplish a single strategic objective.

This was reported in a publication on the Commander-in-Chief’s page.

Failure of the Kremlin’s Strategic Plans

Russian command aimed to end the war on its own terms, planning the full occupation of Donetsk, Luhansk, and Zaporizhzhia regions. A separate objective was the capture of the right bank of Kherson Oblast and an advance toward Odesa to completely cut Ukraine off from the sea.

“We did not allow critical enemy breakthroughs, disrupted their plans, and repeatedly forced them to postpone operational timelines”, — the Commander-in-Chief emphasized.

Record enemy losses and saving lives

The main result of the year was the systematic depletion of the occupation army:

  • Russian losses: Over the year, the enemy lost more than 418,000 personnel killed and wounded.

  • Destruction dynamics: Each month, the Defense Forces eliminate more Russian servicemen than the aggressor state is able to mobilize, preventing the enemy from building up forces.

  • Ukrainian losses: Thanks to improved tactics and combat operations, personnel losses in the Armed Forces of Ukraine in 2025 were reduced by 13%.

General Oleksandr Syrskyi emphasized that the Defense Forces preserved strategic positions and created a foundation for further actions, proving Ukraine’s ability to systematically neutralize the aggressor’s military potential.
