The Ministry of Defense of Ukraine is accelerating the digital transformation of the Armed Forces by implementing an IT vertical.

This was reported on the Ministry’s website.

The approach was first announced in December at the Digital Defence Forum, and the initiative is now moving into implementation.

Within the IT vertical, a structure of units and positions focused on digital development, digital transformation, and digitalization is being created.

The first MoD unit to approve the new staffing structure and implement it in practice is the State Special Transport Service, which plans to create 46 IT positions in January.

Digital transformation specialists will gradually appear at all levels — from battalion to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the Ministry of Defense. They will:

  • implement digital systems in units;

  • collect feedback and relay real needs;

  • act as customers and architects of new digital solutions;

  • shape IT culture within the military.

Such positions will later appear in other branches and services, as well as MoD and General Staff units. Vacancies for heads of strategic-level digital transformation units are already open. Details and application options are available on the MoD partners’ website, Lobby X.

“Digital transformation specialists at the battalion level will be our coordinators and on-site experts. We aim to ensure that experienced professionals serve in roles aligned with their professional expertise”, — said Oksana Ferchuk, Deputy Minister of Defense for Digital Development, Digital Transformation, and Digitalization.
