On the night of January 9 (from 19:30 on January 8), the enemy launched a combined strike on critical infrastructure facilities in Ukraine using strike UAVs, sea-based and land-based missiles.

This was reported by the Air Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine on the morning of January 9.

The main direction of the strike was Kyiv region.

A total of 278 aerial attack targets were detected and tracked by the Air Forces’ radar troops: 36 missiles and 242 UAVs of various types:

  • 242 strike UAVs of Shahed, Gerber types (other UAVs) from Kursk, Oryol, Millerovo, Primorsko-Akhtarsk — Russia; Chauda, Hvardiyiske — TOT Crimea; Donetsk (around 150 were Shaheds);

  • 13 ballistic missiles Iskander-M / S-400 (launch areas — Bryansk region — Russia);

  • 22 Kalibr cruise missiles (from the Black Sea);

  • 1 medium-range ballistic missile (from Kapustin Yar range, Astrakhan region — Russia).

The air attack was repelled by aviation, anti-aircraft missile troops, EW units, UAV units, and mobile fire groups of the Ukrainian Defense Forces.

Preliminary data as of 09:00: air defense shot down/suppressed 244 aerial targets:

  • 226 enemy UAVs of Shahed, Gerber types (other UAVs);

  • 8 ballistic Iskander-M / S-400 missiles;

  • 10 Kalibr cruise missiles.

Impacts of 18 missiles and 16 strike UAVs were recorded at 19 locations.

“We express our condolences to the families of those killed and injured as a result of another Russian terrorist attack”, — the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine said.
