Ukraine and Latvia discussed Joint projects and Defense needs for 2026
Deputy Minister of Defense of Ukraine Serhii Boiev held a meeting with the State Secretary of the Ministry of Defense of Latvia, Aivars Puriņš, regarding the development of joint projects in the defense industry sector and defense assistance in 2026.
This was reported by the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine on December 17.
The Ukrainian side briefed the Latvian delegation on the security situation in Ukraine and current threats posed by the Russian Federation. As stated by the Ministry of Defense, according to intelligence data, the aggressor continues to increase weapons production on its territory, indicating plans to continue the war.
“We understand that 2026 will be a key year in many respects. We are conducting active preparations and are grateful to Latvia for its tangible assistance throughout this entire time. Partner support is important for achieving a just peace”, — Serhii Boiev said.
He also thanked the Latvian side for the previously transferred 42 Patria armored personnel carriers.
The parties discussed defense needs for 2026. Serhii Boiev emphasized the need for additional funding for Ukraine’s defense industry and for utilizing its full capabilities. They also discussed steps to continue developing joint projects.
A representative of Latvia’s Ministry of Defense подчерклив, that they seek to ensure the most efficient use of funds allocated to assist Ukraine and are ready to involve Latvian defense companies in the production of Ukrainian drones.
