President and his team discussed with U.S. partners the details of a document on security guarantees
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky, together with his team, discussed with the American side the details of one of the three documents aimed at achieving peace — the one concerning security guarantees for Ukraine. NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte also took part in the conversation.
This was reported on the website of the President of Ukraine.
The American side was represented by U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, U.S. Secretary of War Pete Hegseth, representatives of the U.S. President’s team Steven Witkoff and Jared Kushner, Generals Jack Keane and Alexus Grynkewich, and White House Senior Adviser Josh Gruenbaum.
Volodymyr Zelensky noted that Ukraine highly values the active efforts of the American side at various levels — both to end the war and to ensure Ukraine’s security and prevent a new Russian invasion.
“This demonstrates the seriousness of U.S. intentions and their determination to achieve results”, — the statement reads.
The Head of State emphasized that security guarantees are one of the most important elements for all further steps.
“We have already had the negative experience of the Budapest Memorandum. Everyone remembers that. As well as the times when Russia repeatedly violated all of its other commitments”, — the President stated.
Volodymyr Zelensky stressed that the document on security guarantees must provide clear answers to the issues that concern Ukrainians the most: what actions partners will take if the Russian Federation decides to resort to aggression against Ukraine again.
The sides agreed that Ukrainian and American teams will work actively to ensure that a concrete understanding of the security guarantees is achieved in the near future.
