The aggressor is attempting to destroy the Pechenihy dam — 16th Army Corps
The Pechenihy dam has long been the target of systematic Russian attacks. The enemy has attempted to strike it with Iranian Shaheds, KAB aerial bombs, missiles of various types, Molniya munitions, and FPV drones.
This was reported by the 16th Army Corps of the Armed Forces of Ukraine on 7 December.
“Only in recent days, several attempts to hit this area have been recorded. The day before yesterday, a Russian missile struck a nearby dacha settlement, destroying more than ten houses.
The Ukrainian side has long understood the potential risks and is prepared for the possibility that the dam may suffer critical damage. Appropriate response plans were developed in advance.
Alternative routes of movement were developed in case the dam is struck. They were actively used previously, and now they fully allow for maintaining the necessary logistics.
Second, Ukrainian units have accumulated the required stockpiles of materiel. Therefore, the temporary potential loss of the ability to move across the dam will not have a critical impact on combat operations.
And third, if necessary, the Ukrainian Defense Forces are ready to restore the crossing in the shortest time possible. There are special engineering assets and specialists who are already working according to established procedures.
The Pechenihy dam is a critically important facility that ensures water supply, ecosystem stability, and the safety of dozens of settlements in the Kharkiv region.
Attempts to destroy the dam have no military justification, and strikes on it are an indiscriminate attack on a civilian object, which is explicitly prohibited by Article 52 of Additional Protocol I”, — the 16th Army Corps said in its statement.
