A cadet must be a leader, and the very concept of leader training is first and foremost about values and professionalism.
This was stated in an interview with ArmyInform by Colonel Volodymyr Marushchenko, Deputy Head of the Military Institute of Tank Forces of NTU “KhPI” for Educational and Scientific Work.
“If he is a professional, if he is psychologically prepared to work as a commander, he will be a leader. It is also important how he establishes communication with his subordinates, but professionalism remains the foundation. A future officer must understand his role in modern combat. Given that the enemy constantly and everywhere conducts reconnaissance using UAVs, and there is a constant threat of units and weapons being struck by unmanned aerial systems, a cadet must have a strong understanding of the battlefield”, — the officer noted.
According to him, a commander must constantly analyze the situation and, most importantly, correctly assess the battlefield and the conditions in which his unit operates.
“Currently, we are trying to immerse the cadet in such an environment through various means. These include meetings with combat commanders both online and directly in classrooms, where they can discuss the specifics of the modern combat environment. Simulation modeling programs are also used, incorporating the full range of modern weapons, including unmanned aerial systems. Psychological resilience and psychological training are undoubtedly important. All of this forms the basis of his future activity as a commander”, — he emphasized.
