Took out a loan to fly to Russia and ended up on the front line: Story of captured African mercenary Richard
Fighters of the 63rd Mechanized Brigade captured a citizen of Uganda near Lyman who had been promised a job in Moscow but was instead thrown into combat.
A video of the conversation with the prisoner was published on January 7 on the brigade’s channel.
“Since the beginning of autumn, our pilots and infantry have managed to neutralize dark-skinned mercenaries of Russia who were advancing toward our positions with weapons in their hands.
They had no documents with them, making it impossible to identify these ‘new arrivals’.
That was until just before the New Year, when a barely alive, frozen African man ran to one of the checkpoints near Lyman. He was unarmed and shouting for help.
It turned out to be Richard from Uganda. Trying to escape poverty, he fell for Russian promises, took out a massive bank loan for plane tickets to Russia, but there, instead of a job in a supermarket, he was faced with a choice — sign a contract or be shot in the head.
He was made an offer he couldn’t refuse…” — the brigade said.
