Kyiv hosted the second visit this year by the Director General of the NATO International Military Staff, Lieutenant General Remigijus Baltrėnas.

This was reported by the Command of the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Who met and what was discussed in Kyiv

Information meetings with Lieutenant General Baltrėnas were attended by the Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Brigadier General Oleksii Shevchenko, the Commander of the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Lieutenant General Anatolii Kryvonozhko, as well as other representatives of the General Staff and military command bodies.

The International Military Staff is the executive body of NATO’s Military Committee and a key link between the Alliance’s political leadership and its strategic commands. This body is responsible for assessments, research, and the preparation of documents on NATO military matters.

Air Defence, Aviation, and a just Peace

During the talks, the Ukrainian side informed the NATO representative about the current situation on the front line and Ukraine’s position regarding the conditions for a just peace. Particular emphasis was placed on the critical need to accelerate the supply of weapons from partners — first and foremost aircraft, air defense missiles, and air defense systems to strengthen air defense against massive Russian air attacks.

NSATU and JATEC: coordinating assistance

The parties supported further expansion of efforts by the NATO Security Assistance and Training for Ukraine mission (NSATU) and the NATO–Ukraine Joint Analysis, Training, and Education Center (JATEC). These mechanisms are intended to unify allied assistance in supply, logistics, troop training, and achieving interoperability with NATO.

Ukrainian experience is valuable for the Alliance

Following the meetings, Lieutenant General Remigijus Baltrėnas emphasized the importance of adopting Ukraine’s combat experience — particularly in organizing defense, implementing innovations tested in real combat conditions, and countering Russian drones.
