President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a conversation with Japan’s Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi and informed her about Ukraine’s intentions to develop controlled arms exports and build strong partnerships for the joint production of modern weapons capable of providing protection against threats.
He announced this on social media on November 5.
“I am grateful for the support of our people and for the respect shown toward the courage of Ukrainians. I congratulated the Prime Minister on assuming office. We discussed how we can unite our efforts so that both our peoples and our regions can enjoy greater security and development”, — he wrote.
The President of Ukraine thanked Japan for its unwavering assistance and principled stance since the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion.
“We share the same understanding of the dangers that Russia’s war poses to everyone in the world, and we are ready to work together to develop the strongest technologies to protect life, taking into account the changes and challenges brought by this war”, — the Head of State noted.
He also informed her about the urgent need to strengthen Ukraine’s air defense to protect lives in cities and safeguard the country’s energy infrastructure, which remains Russia’s primary target.
“We highly appreciate Japan’s and the Prime Minister’s willingness to assist us in the energy sector with the necessary equipment. This will help our cities and communities during the coming winter. Of course, we are also interested in expanding cooperation with Japan in reconstruction and recovery efforts”, — Volodymyr Zelenskyy emphasized.
He also briefed the Prime Minister on the diplomatic situation and the possibilities for exerting effective pressure on Russia to compel it toward genuine diplomacy and an end to the war.
“I invited the Prime Minister to visit Ukraine. I am confident that Ukraine and Japan have an even greater potential for cooperation than we have today. And we sincerely hope for joint results”, — the President concluded.
