The Kremlin is asking Pyongyang for new ballistic missiles for the war against Ukraine.

Andrii Cherniak, a representative of Ukraine’s Defence Intelligence, said this in a comment to Liga.net.

According to the military intelligence representative, Russia is negotiating with North Korea on a new package of military assistance ahead of the autumn and winter period. Among the items requested are KN-30 ballistic missiles, which the Defence Intelligence estimates to be three times more powerful than the KN-23/24.

As of now, however, Ukrainian intelligence has not recorded any transfer of KN-30s from the DPRK to Russia.

The Defence Intelligence reported earlier that the Kremlin is counting on receiving 120 ballistic missiles and six launchers from Pyongyang, a separate missile unit of up to 90 personnel, and between 30,000 and 50,000 North Korean troops.

Of what it requested, Russia has already received 40 KN-23/24 missiles. Two of these, according to Andrii Cherniak, Russian forces have already used in one of their recent attacks on Ukraine.

“Missile terror is part of the Kremlin’s strategy, aimed at heightening fear and stirring up division and conflict inside Ukraine. In this way the aggressor puts pressure on Ukrainian society and tries to undermine our resilience,” Andrii Cherniak explained.

The final scale of North Korea’s military assistance to Russia, he said, may be determined at the September talks between Putin and Kim Jong Un.
