Quality as a Priority: Ukrainian Specialists Adopt Croatia’s Experience in Mine Action
The quality of humanitarian demining is just as vital as modern equipment and skilled operators in making contaminated land safe again.
In modern conditions, the quality of humanitarian demining operations is no less important than the availability of advanced equipment or the professional training of operators. Therefore, international experience exchange and the implementation of global best practices remain a top priority for developing Ukraine’s mine action system.
Representatives of the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine successfully completed the specialized Quality Management Training course, which took place at the Croatian Mine Action Centre — Centre for Testing, Development and Training (HCR-CTRO).
The training was aimed at deepening knowledge and practical skills in quality management during the planning, organization, and control of humanitarian demining activities. Participants explored modern approaches to quality assurance, conducting internal and external control, risk management, as well as mechanisms for implementing international mine action standards.

Special attention during the course was paid to the practical aspects of organizing a quality control system at all stages of work execution. Croatia possesses one of Europe’s most successful track records in overcoming landmine threats, making its developments extremely valuable for Ukraine, which currently faces an unprecedented scale of explosive ordnance contamination.
The acquired knowledge will allow Ukrainian specialists to refine quality management processes in mine action in accordance with international standards and international best practices. This will enhance personnel safety, increase the efficiency of demining operations, and strengthen confidence in land clearance results.
