Operating just a few kilometers from the front line, Oleksandr’s crew has downed 9 enemy targets.
His story was published on the page of the Air Command “West” of the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
According to Oleksandr, the system is a true embodiment of advanced engineering.
It can simultaneously detect and track dozens of targets at long distances, transmitting data not only to its own system but also to adjacent air defense units within a unified network.
“Without radar, an air defense missile system is ‘blind’. We cannot allow even the slightest malfunction. Everything is maintained in perfect condition because the system must operate 24/7”, — the officer said.
Currently, this division of the anti-aircraft missile Shepetivka Brigade of Air Command “West” has more than 150 destroyed cruise missiles and attack drones to its credit.
This figure is the result of coordinated teamwork.
Oleksandr is an engineer by education and a graduate of the Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute.
Before mobilization, he worked in the civilian sector, and in March 2022, he joined the defense of the state.
He began his combat path on the Buk-M1 air defense system.
The geography of air defense battles ranged from Zhytomyr region to Dnipropetrovsk region.
In February 2023, the unit advanced to a new level by mastering the modern IRIS-T air defense system.
Oleksandr underwent advanced engineering training to work with radar systems.
Since then, this radar station has been in the reliable hands of his operational-technical group.
“This is a modern, fully digital, reliable station that can operate 24/7. Its detection range is hundreds of kilometers”, — Oleksandr said.
According to him, it effectively detects small, low-altitude targets such as drones and cruise missiles.
Together with launchers and the command post, the entire IRIS-T system demonstrates impressive effectiveness.
“Our unit has already destroyed more than 150 targets and will not stop until Victory”, — the serviceman concluded.
For his combat service, Oleksandr has been awarded state and departmental honors, including the Presidential award “For the Defense of Ukraine”, distinctions from the Minister of Defense “Military Cross” and “For Exemplary Service”, — and the Commander-in-Chief’s badge “Silver Cross”.
