Ukraine could become the main testing ground for training European missile defense systems.

This was stated by Denys Shtilerman, chief designer of the defense company Fire Point, in an interview with Army TV.

Developers of Ukrainian ballistic missiles propose using their test launches to calibrate radars and interception systems.

According to Shtilerman, during tests of Ukrainian ballistic missiles it is possible to know the exact trajectory of the missile, which is critically important for training missile defense systems.

“When there is a clear trajectory along which a ballistic missile flies, you can train the entire interception system”, — he explained.

In the case of real combat launches of Russian missiles, this is much more difficult.

“You cannot train radars on incoming Iskander missiles, because you don’t know how it flies”, — the designer noted.

Fire Point proposes that European partners integrate Ukrainian developments into a joint missile defense system, which they plan to build together with European companies.

The project has received the working name Freya, after the Norse goddess of war.

Within this initiative, Ukrainian missiles could serve both as strike ballistic weapons and interceptors for missile defense systems.

Another feature is the use of composite materials instead of aluminum, which reduces the missile’s visibility to radars.

“Our missiles are composite and significantly less visible than aluminum ones”, — Denys Shtilerman explained.

According to him, the large number of upcoming test launches creates a unique opportunity for partners to practice missile defense operations in real conditions.
