Representatives of the Ministry of Defense met with members of the Public Council at the Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War.
The meeting was also attended by representatives of the Coordination Headquarters and the Office of the Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights.
They discussed optimal models for the operation of Social Support Centers, which are intended to provide comprehensive assistance and support to families of missing servicemembers.
The head of the Public Council at the Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War, Iryna Abramova, expressed satisfaction that the Ministry of Defense listens to the council’s members:
“We are pleased that they hear us. We are satisfied that the Standard Regulation will be changed, that the public opinion —‘do not change what already works well’— will be taken into account. And most importantly, we hope these changes will take place”.
Abramova added that council members also expect that regulatory documents will first be put in order, and afterward the Social Support Centers will begin functioning.
“We agreed that the Centers will work with servicemembers of those military units that were disbanded, and whose documents were transferred to the Territorial Recruitment and Social Support Centers. These servicemembers’ documents will be moved to the Support Centers, the first of which has been established in the western region.
We consider this a sound agreement and sound cooperation. And we hope this cooperation will continue”, — said Abramova.
“We reached an understanding that at present the Social Support Center will focus on working with documents of military units that are being disbanded or have already been disbanded. In particular, these are rifle battalions whose successors are the TRCC and SSC.
We also agreed on the need to amend the Standard Regulation on the Center to clarify the Center’s tasks concerning the search for missing persons”, — emphasized Colonel Oleksandr Pukhalskyi, Deputy Director of the Department of Social Support of the Ministry of Defense.
