In the area of Chasiv Yar, the occupiers periodically throw heavy and light armored vehicles into assaults.
The specifics of their modern use were explained in an exclusive comment to ArmyInform by Ivan Petrychak, Head of the Communications Department of the 24th Separate Mechanized Brigade named after King Danylo.
“Although massive tank assaults are now less frequent than at the beginning of the full-scale invasion, the Russians periodically deploy armored vehicles on the Chasiv Yar axis. Over the past week, they tried to break through with armored groups involving tanks, MT-LBs, and infantry”, — he said.
However, these are no longer the huge armored columns that the enemy could afford at the beginning of the wide-scale invasion.
“This is no longer ‘classic’ with large columns. Tanks are used as mobile firing points — they cover the infantry and try to suppress our fortifications. MT-LBs mainly bring personnel closer to the contact line, after which enemy soldiers try to entrench themselves in shelters and advance in small groups”, — the serviceman explained.
When detecting the movement of enemy tanks and armored personnel carriers, Ukrainian defenders act proactively and destroy enemy armor at long approaches to their positions.
“All units of the 24th Brigade work proactively. Reconnaissance detects enemy equipment movement from afar, after which artillery, anti-tank weapons, and drones engage it. As a result, enemy assaults fail even before the equipment can approach our positions.
Modern defense is constant situational control and fast reaction to any threat. The enemy is trying to use everything it has in hopes of establishing full control over Chasiv Yar to enable further advance deeper into Donetsk region. For now, all breakthrough attempts in this area end with heavy losses for the enemy. The battle for the town continues!” — Ivan Petrychak summarized.
