The European Commission will support repairs of Ukraine’s energy infrastructure and help rebuild and strengthen the power grid before the next winter.

This was announced by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy following meetings with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.

“This is one of the most important results of our meetings yesterday, and its significance is hard to overestimate, given Russia’s constant attempts to destroy normal life in Ukraine”, — Zelenskyy said.

He added that Ukraine and the EU will jointly ensure reliable power supply, decentralized generation, and restoration of damaged facilities.

Earlier, Zelenskyy met with European Council President António Costa and Ursula von der Leyen, who arrived in Kyiv on February 24 — the fourth anniversary of Russia’s full-scale invasion.

The meeting addressed concrete steps toward peace, including legislative changes in the EU enabling the detention of Russian tankers and confiscation of their transported oil.

Other key topics included the €90-billion EU credit for 2026–2027, which must start working as soon as possible. Ursula von der Leyen stated the decision has been made and cannot be reversed:

“We will ensure this credit one way or another. We have different mechanisms for this, and we will use them”.
