According to him, they now mostly target infantry because, for the enemy, people are expendable.
His story was published on the page of the 48th Separate Artillery Brigade named after Colonel of the Army of the Ukrainian People’s Republic Hryhorii Chyzhevskyi.
Ruslan is from Lokhvytsia in Poltava region. He is currently a gun commander, previously a gunner.
This is his third time serving in the military — conscription service, then the Anti-Terrorist Operation, and now the full-scale invasion.
“Each time I serve in different branches. Air assault, then infantry, and now artillery. But I like artillery, especially when we receive a report or video showing that we hit a target”, — Ruslan says.
According to him, to become a gun commander, you must go through the gunner’s course — and he not only completed it but also gained real combat experience.
“Being a commander means not only knowing how the gun works but also being able to work with the team. Our crew is coordinated and experienced now, so there are no problems with the people. I am satisfied with my guys”, — he says.
The artilleryman notes that you must not relax because when you lose focus, you lose vigilance.
“I remember this from the ATO. But you must be afraid to a reasonable extent. The eyes fear, but the hands do the work. You understand what must be done and force yourself. Because who else will defend our country if not us?”
His motivation is defending his country and his family — his wife and daughter are waiting for him at home.
“My older brother is also in the army defending the country. We must do everything so our descendants can live normally — so they don’t live under someone else’s control but their own lives. So that children don’t see what we see”, — the artilleryman concludes.
