The Swedish government has presented one of its largest military aid packages for Ukraine worth almost 12.9 billion Swedish kronor ($1.2 billion).
This was announced by Swedish Defense Minister Pål Jonson.
The package mainly includes new air-defense assets and ammunition.
“Sweden is one of the countries that supports Ukraine the most, both quantitatively and qualitatively. The Swedish systems we have provided to Ukraine have proven themselves very well on the battlefield”, — Pål Jonson said.
The first part of the package, worth 4.3 billion kronor, provides for Sweden’s purchase and transfer of weapons systems so that Ukraine can better defend itself from Russian drones, including the Tridon air-defense system.
5.6 billion euros are allocated for Ukraine’s own development and production of long-range missiles and drones — both aerial and naval.
Three billion will be used for grenade launchers, the purchase of artillery shells, spare parts, and training of Ukrainian servicemen.
Since the beginning of the Russian invasion, Sweden has provided Ukraine with more than 100 billion kronor in military aid.
In early February, the Minister of Defense of Ukraine, Mykhailo Fedorov, during a conversation with Sweden’s Defense Minister Pål Jonson, discussed forming one of the largest security packages for Ukraine.
