“We are different, but we have one coat of arms. With it we stand, with it we go into battle for Ukraine. Happy Day of the State Coat of Arms of Ukraine!” — the post reads.

On 19 February 1992, the Small State Coat of Arms of Ukraine — one of the three official state symbols — was approved. The central heraldic figure of the coat of arms is the Tryzub (Trident) of Volodymyr the Great, Prince of Kyiv.

The Tryzub unites Ukrainian citizens who today defend the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine against Russian armed aggression — it is a symbol that encodes the strength of the Ukrainian nation, its spirit, traditions, and centuries-long struggle for independence.

The Tryzub has a thousand-year history. In ancient times, it was the emblem of the princely dynasty — the rulers of Kyivan Rus. During the times of the Ukrainian People’s Republic, the Tryzub was approved as the state coat of arms of Ukraine, highlighting continuity with previous periods of Ukrainian history.

After regaining independence in 1991 and choosing the Tryzub as the state coat of arms, Ukraine demonstrated its adherence to the traditions of the Ukrainian People’s Republic.

The Tryzub as the Small State Coat of Arms was approved on 19 February 1992 by a resolution of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine (along with attached images).

The Constitution of Ukraine, adopted on 28 June 1996, enshrined this symbol of our state.
